Uncommon is dedicated to instilling these values in our players, coaches, and staff, creating a culture of excellence and personal growth. Hard work is at the heart of our organization, as we believe that dedication and perseverance are essential for achieving success both on and off the field. We cultivate a culture of appreciation, recognizing and valuing the contributions of each individual within our organization. We instill the mindset of never quitting, teaching our players to overcome challenges and setbacks with resilience and determination. Finally, we encourage assertive application, empowering our players to take initiative, make decisions, and actively contribute to their own development. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

OUR ATHLETE'S TRANSFORMATIONS

My name is Ian Diaz. I was born and raised in Philadelphia and was blessed enough to go to Chestnut Hill Academy which is where I first met Coach Ishikawa. Afterwards, I was a bit of a journey-man first going to Hofstra University. Soon after arriving at Hofstra, I transferred to the junior college Lackawanna, and eventually ended at the University of Maryland Baltimore County to finish my collegiate career. I’ll be in my professional baseball career this upcoming spring in Independent baseball. However, the things I learned from Coach Ishikawa have stuck with me since. He was a strong figure in my high school life helping me become the man I am teaching me the importance of accountability, mental fortitude, and Ohana… Family. These values are important in life and baseball and so once I heard about Uncommon, it was the clean choice. Having an amazing facility and being reminded of these values every day continue to help me grow as a player in person as I begin the next chapter of my career.

My name is Chris Alleyne. I grew up in the Philadelphia area and was lucky enough to attend Chestnut Hill Academy. It was there where I learned the true meaning of what it means to be a part of a team… Ohana. Coach Ishikawa made family a staple of who we were, and was at the forefront of everything we did at SCH and we all took that and carried it with us forever. So when I found out that Uncommon was being put into place it was a no-brainer. Feeling a sense of community is so important and vital to success in any career. I couldn’t be more appreciative of the opportunity to play baseball at the University of Maryland, and was then drafted by the Dodgers. This place has been such a crucial factor of my progression and having access to the facility and the family environment here is extremely uncommon in today’s game.

My name is Ha’oa Tulei Bode. I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in American Samoa, a U.S. Territory in the South Pacific Ocean.

In 2015, my dad got very sick and my two older sisters stayed in American Samoa with him and my sister Kamaha’o, my mom and I moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Adjusting from American Samoa to now living in Philadelphia, Blue Bell to be exact was difficult. I attended Shady Grove Elementary and started making friends. My dad played college baseball so the sport was always my favorite from a little boy. I was then introduced to travel ball. My first year here, I played for Coach McDonald, the Lower Gwynedd Dodgers. I then played for the AATF Canes for two years under Coach Vinny Keaser. Although I enjoyed my time at the Canes, I was still looking for more. I was then offered an invitation under Coach Ed Curtis to play for Diamond Baseball. I was only there for four months, but it was a blessing. I met Coach Ben Lippincott.

In September of 2021, I found my home at UnCommon Baseball. It was the organization I’ve been looking for. In 2019, I was accepted into Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. I made the varsity baseball team as an eighth grader. Although I could pitch, my self-confidence in my command and in my presence and my velocity was something that I’ve always struggled with. Over the last three years at UnCommon Baseball, I have gone from throwing 70 mph to 82 mph under the regiment and dedication of Coach Mike McGee, Coach Ben Lippincott, and the entire UnCommon organization. At UnCommon, they teach integrity, accountability, hard-work, and respect for yourself and others. UnCommon is the only organization that their doors are open to everyone as if they were family. At UnCommon, they preach about being ohana. To most, ohana means family, but at UnCommon, OHANA stands for O-obedience, H-heart and hard-work, A-appreciation for everything and everyone that got you there, N-never quit, A-assertive and application to whatever you do in life. To date, last year, as team captain of Springside chestnut hill academy varsity baseball team, we won the inter-ac championship. I made First-Team All Inter-Ac. I carry a 3.9 GPA. I am the co-Student Body President with my sister. I owe so much of my success to Coach Joe Ishikawa, Coach Ben Lippincott, Coach Mike McGee, Coach Gunnar Hayes, and the entire UnCommon baseball organization. I don’t know where I would be without them.

I'm Dylan Duke, and my journey in baseball has led me through six different travel organizations, ranging from regional to small-town teams. Yet, it's with great confidence that I attest to the unparalleled experience I've had with Uncommon Baseball. In my time there, I discovered a unique environment that not only honed my skills as a pitcher but also fostered growth in every facet of my life. Uncommon Baseball stands out among the organizations I've been a part of, creating a culture that goes beyond the game. It's an environment that shapes you into a more formidable competitor, a dedicated athlete, a diligent student, and an overall better person. The comprehensive approach they take towards personal development sets them apart. Now a freshman at Saint Joseph's University, I can attest to the exceptional preparation I received from Uncommon. The coaches there not only enhanced my baseball skills but instilled qualities that have proven invaluable in all aspects of my life. I genuinely believe that Uncommon Baseball has been instrumental in crafting the best version of myself, providing not just baseball opportunities but enriching life experiences.
